와부 프로젝트

남양주 와부읍은 서울시에 인접하여 물류의 보관 및 유통에 유리하며, 한강과 산을 마주하고 있어 거주성 또한 높은 곳이다. 건축주는 이러한 지리적 장점이 있는 와부읍에서 소매와 유통, 간단한 상품 제작을 해왔고, 기존 사업지와 가까운 곳에 새로운 공간을 계획하고자 했다. 이전하는 곳의 위치는 운길산, 예봉산 등 주변의 다양한 산으로 진입할 수 있는 길의 초입으로 높은 산맥이 대지의 배경으로 펼쳐져 있다. 대지 주변에는 주거지, 음식점, 카페 및 공장이 곳곳에 자리하고 있지만 밭, 과수원 등 작물을 키우는 곳이 대부분인 한적한 동네이다. &#38;nbsp;

The project lies on the edge of the city of Seoul, where density becomes loose and immersed in nature. The location offers advantages for logistics and habitability. The client has been operating retail, distribution, and manufacturing in the area for a long time and wanted to build a new building in an adjacent neighborhood. The new location is an entrance path of various mountains which provides a view towards nature.

	건축주는 기존과 동일한 용도로 공간을 사용하며, 동시에 전망이 좋은 곳에 가족과 함께 사용할 수 있는 세컨드 하우스 그리고 일부는 임대를 위한 공간으로 사용하길 원했다. 공간의 주 쓰임은 상품 제작, 유통 및 판매를 위한 공간으로 작업 동선에 맞춰 공간을 배치하고 용도에 맞는 합리적인 높이의 공간을 계획하는 것이 중요했다.  건물은 크게 세 부분으로 나뉜다. 먼저, 자연을 가까이 마주하고 있는 대지의 안쪽 공간에 사람들이 가장 오랜 시간을 머물게 되는 사무공간과 상품 제작 공간 그리고 세컨드 하우스를 배치하였다. 두 번째로 작업실에서 가깝고 상대적으로 외부와 접하는 벽면이 가장 작은 건물의 중간 부분에 층고가 높은 창고를 계획했다. 그리고 임대 공간은 도로와 가장 접근성이 좋은 곳에 배치하여 다양한 용도로 활용할 수 있도록 하였다.


	The new building had to include the original function as well as a second house for the family with a view towards the mountain, and some of the area was for lease. The focus of the design was on creating an efficient working route and a suitable volume for manufacturing, distribution, and retail purposes. &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;The building is divided into three parts. First, the most inner part of the land will be used for manufacturing, office space and the second house. Secondly, the middle part of the building which is near to the manufacturing space and consists of a minimum exterior wall, functions as storage with a high ceiling. And the last, the closest part of the road, which function is not yet decided will be used as a space for rent.

위와 같이 작업 동선을 고려하여 공간을 효율적으로 배치함으로써 두터운 단일 건물을 구성할 수 있었다. 우리는 이러한 기능 위주의 건물에 건축의 필수 요소인 계단을 이용하여 공간의 질을 높일 방법을 고민했다. 수직 동선의 역할을 하는 계단실에 천창과 3개 층이 뚫려있는 빈 공간을 함께 구성하였다. 계단을 오고 내리며 시간 때 별로 다르게 천창의 빛이 떨어지는 장면을 마주할 수 있는 여유 공간으로 쓰일 수 있기를 바랐다.&#38;nbsp; 

건축물의 외부 마감 재료는 주변 건물에서 주로 사용하는 보편적인 재료인 미장 마감을 선택하였다. 산 가까이 위치하는 건물로서 그 경관을 해치지 않도록 빛을 반사하지 않고, 흡수할 수 있는 회색 톤을 선택하였다. 내부 마감은 한정된 예산과 창고 및 작업장으로 쓰이는 내부 프로그램을 고려하여 콘크리트 골조를 최대한 그대로 사용하는 방향으로 결정하였다. 
A heavy mass was created by arranging building usage according to working conditions. We aim to create a quality in a functional layout through the staircase which is the essential element of the building. The stair that connects the space vertically is situated next to a three-story void space with a top light. This will provide a relaxed scenery with natural light, brightening the staircase from above in a different timeline.


A gray stucco was chosen for the exterior cladding which is commonly used in the neighborhood. As the building will stand near the mountain, we have chosen the color gray, which can absorb the light rather than reflect it. Considering the usage of the building and the limited budget, the interior finish was left as concrete, the structural material.

서점극장 라블레

서점극장 라블레는 1950년대에 지어진 연와조 건축물로 오래된 건물이 빼곡하게 들어서 있는 서울 도심에 위치하고 있다. 삼각형 대지의 안쪽으로 향하면 복숭아 나무가 있는 작은 정원이 나온다.&#38;nbsp;복숭아 꽃이 흩날리는 정원과 오래된 건축물로 둘러 쌓여 번잡한 도심의 소음이 차단된&#38;nbsp;2층의 아늑한 테라스는 이에 연결된 공간을 풍요롭게 만들어준다. 

오래된 건물인만큼 여러 번에 걸쳐서 수선이 됐지만, 설계를 통해 대지와 기존 건물의 다양한 조건을 더욱 적극적으로 활용할 수 있는 가능성이 엿보였다.&#38;nbsp;대로변에서 진입하여 숨겨진 정원에 다다르는 여정은 삼각형 대지라는 특수한 상황 때문인지 더 극적으로 다가온다.&#38;nbsp;안쪽으로 향할수록 심도 있는 프로그램을 배치하고,&#38;nbsp;그 끝에 작은 정원을 만난다면 해방감과 안도감을 줄 수 있다고 생각했다.

'Rabelais Books and Theatre' is housed in a structure which was built in 1950, and is located in the dense and old city fabric of Seoul. On the edge of the triangular-shaped plot, a peach tree stands in a small courtyard. The roof terrace is surrounded by the old neighborhood and the peach flower is scattered into the air, creating a contrasting atmosphere to the busy street. 

The building had already gone through several alterations, and the stone facade needed to be kept which has been repaired recently.&#38;nbsp;The route to the inner side of the plot from the main road has a dramatic spatial quality because of its triangular shape. We saw the opportunity to create a&#38;nbsp;sense of&#38;nbsp;freedom and relief by creating a sequence of different spaces as you move deeper towards the courtyard.&#38;nbsp;

	문학을 연구하며 때때로 연극을 하시는 건축주는 “옛날 수도원이나 동굴 교회를 실험실/작업실로 바꿔서 쓰는 장소인데 낮에는 서점으로 위장되었다는 컨셉”의 공간을 요청하셨다.&#38;nbsp;입구에서 보았을 때는 완전한 서점이지만 서점 내부로 들어가서 층고가 높아지는 영역의 중심부는&#38;nbsp;“낮 동안 각자 자유롭게 글을 쓰거나 번역하거나 공상하는 곳”이었다가&#38;nbsp;“밤에는 여럿이 모여 이야기를 나누거나 배우의 낭독 공연,&#38;nbsp;책의 축제가 열리는 장소”로 쓰길 원하셨다.

이에 1층은 도로변부터 진입부 서점,&#38;nbsp;동굴서점 그리고 정원으로 이어지는 작업실 공간,&#38;nbsp;이렇게&#38;nbsp;3가지 영역으로 나누어 계획했다.&#38;nbsp;기존 건축물은 인도 없이 차도에 맞닿아 있어 보행자의 접근이 불편했다.&#38;nbsp;내부가 좁아지더라도 건물 앞으로 이동할 수 있는 공간을 확보한 후 유리창을 설치하여 창 밖에서 서성이며 서점을 들여다 볼 수 있도록 했다.&#38;nbsp;진입부 서점은 온전한 서점이면서 동시에 표를 끊고 극을 보러 들어가는 매표소이기도 하다. 

	The client, who studies literature and occasionally performs plays, wanted a space with “a spatial concept of a disguised bookstore which can also be used as a laboratory/working space that evokes the atmosphere of a monastery or a church within a cave”. When seen from the front façade the space will seem entirely like a bookstore, but moving towards the middle of the building, with its higher ceiling, the space becomes more of a “writing, translating and dreaming area during the daytime, and a gathering place for an informal chat, an actor’s recital and a festival of books at night”. 

The ground floor is divided into three parts: an entrance bookstore, a cave bookstore, and a working space leading to the inner garden. The existing road had no pedestrian sidewalk which makes it difficult to access the building. By placing the new glass façade behind the existing one, a space is created that allows passers-by to move more easily and to have a look at the books. The entrance bookstore also works as a ticket booth for the theatre behind.

매표소를 지나 커튼으로 가려져 있던 입구로 들어서면 층고가 높은 동굴서점이 나온다. 서점의 중심에 축제의 장소를 만들기 위해 우리는 옛 수도원에서 자주 경험할 수 있는 반원형 천장(볼트)을 계획했다.&#38;nbsp;이 공간은 외부의 시선이 닿지 않는 내밀한 공간으로 방문자가 원하는 방식으로 편하게 머물다 갈 수 있다.&#38;nbsp;건축주가 생각했던 마을의 오래된 나무 아래 같은 곳이 되어줄 공간이다.&#38;nbsp;그 다음 안으로 들어서면 작업실 두 곳을 연결해주는 복도가 나오고 그 끝에 정원에 도달한다.&#38;nbsp;정원에 있던&#38;nbsp;2개의 창고 중 창고 하나와 계단의 일부를 철거하여 정원을 넓게 확보하되,&#38;nbsp;계단과 건물의 일부 흔적을 남겨 그 자체가 조형적인 재미를 줄 수 있도록 했다. 

2층은 건축주의 업무공간이다.&#38;nbsp;주변의 높은 건축물로 인해 빛이 잘 들어오지 않아,&#38;nbsp;내부 깊숙한 곳까지 밝혀줄 천창을 새로운 지붕이 연결되는 두 지점에 만들었다.&#38;nbsp;새롭게 확장된 반원형 천장의 공간은 아래의 복숭아 나무를 내려다 볼 수 있는 외부 테라스와 연결된다.
Pulling back the curtain, the hidden 'cave' part of the bookstore with a higher ceiling is revealed. As it is meant to be the festival area in the centre of a bookstore, a vault ceiling was planned to create the atmosphere of an old monastery. It is an inner space that allows visitors to stay comfortable, out of reach of the gaze from strangers on the street. It is a place that can be reminiscent of the shade of a divine tree in an old village that the client had dreamt of. The small courtyard reveals itself after going along the passage that is connected to the two working areas. To obtain enough space for the garden, demolition of one of the two sheds and a part of the stairs was necessary. The remaining parts of the shed and stair became ornamentation.

The upper floor is an additional working&#38;nbsp;area for the client. Because of the tall buildings that surround the site, two additional ceiling lights were planned to brighten up the inner space. An extended vaulted room is connected to the outdoor terrace that overlooks the garden with the peach tree.

백화원&#38;nbsp;百畫園

마을 어귀에 시냇물이 흐르고, 마을 뒤로는 산이 보인다.&#38;nbsp;시골에서 흔하게 볼 수 있는 색색의 박공지붕의 단층 집들이 옹기종기 모여있다.&#38;nbsp;구불구불 굽은 골목길을 따라 올라가면 산과 밭을 배경으로,&#38;nbsp;마을을 내려다 보는 위치에 백화원이 있다.&#38;nbsp;백화원은 그림을 그리는 작가를 위한 작업 공간과 부모님과 함께 사는 생활 공간이 어우러진 단독주택이다. 
작가에게는 다양한 크기의 그림을 그릴 수 있는 작업실이 필요했다. 그리고 가족들은 다함께 한옥에서 살았던 기억을 떠올리며,&#38;nbsp;그때처럼 자연 가까이 살고자 했다.&#38;nbsp;설계가 시작될 무렵 남쪽 도로 가까이 주택 여러 채가 들어서는 중이었다.&#38;nbsp;대지의 남쪽에는 나무를 심고,&#38;nbsp;텃밭을 가꿀 수 있는 정원을 만들고,&#38;nbsp;그 뒤로 집을 배치해 다른 사람의 집이 아닌 정원을 바라볼 수 있도록 했다.
House Jipyeong

A stream flows swiftly along the front of the village and a mountain stands in the background. Colorful gabled-roof houses are gathered around, which is commonly seen in rural areas. By walking up along the winding street, ‘House Jipyeong’ is situated on a land that overlooks the neighborhood with a scenery of mountains and fields. The house is designed as an atelier for a painter and a living space for her family. 
The main reason the artist needed a house was to have her own atelier where she could work on paintings of various sizes. Also the family wanted to have a life near to nature that would remind them of life in a Hanok - a traditional Korean house where they had once lived. At the beginning of the design phase, several houses were under construction just across the road to the south. It was necessary to place the house to the back of the site so that it could look into its own garden to the south instead of someone else’s house, where they could then grow flowers, trees and vegetables.

	백화원은 형태가 다른 두 동이 나란히 붙어있는 구성이다. 높은 층고의 작업실이 있는 직육면체 동을 뒤편에 생활 공간인 박공 지붕 동을 앞 편에 배치했다. 두 개의 동을 엇갈린 형태로 배치하여 각각의 출입구를 만들었다. 생활 공간의 평면 구성은 부엌,&#38;nbsp;거실,&#38;nbsp;침실이 나란히 있었던 일자형 한옥에서의 삶을 바탕으로 했다.&#38;nbsp;거실과 식사공간 사이,&#38;nbsp;천창이 있는 박공 지붕 아래에 작은 마당을 두었다.

가족 구성원들에게 철저하게 독립된 공간과 자연스럽게 모일 수 있는 공간을 동시에 제공할 수 있도록 계획했다. 작가의 침실은 직육면체 동 끝 북쪽에 배치했고,&#38;nbsp;외부 데크를 통해 바로 작업실과 연결된다.&#38;nbsp;작업실의 다른 문을 열면 바로 식사를 하는 곳이 나온다.&#38;nbsp;작가의 어머니를 위한 다도실은 부엌 위 다락에 있고,&#38;nbsp;침실 위 다락에 있는 아버지를 위한 서재는 벽장 문을 열면 갈 수 있다.&#38;nbsp;모두가 사용하는 서재를 집의 중앙에 배치했고,&#38;nbsp;복도,&#38;nbsp;거실에 열려 있으며,&#38;nbsp;작은 마당을 바라볼 수 있다.

	The house consists of two volumes that are connected lengthways. The rectangular volume that includes the high-ceilinged atelier is positioned to the back, while the gable-roofed volume, where the living space lies, is attached on the front. By making a staggered arrangement of two masses, separate entrances could be made. The floor plan of the linear type Hanok, with the kitchen, living room and bedroom assembled in a straight line, was the backbone on organizing the gable-roofed volume. The small courtyard under the gable roof with a roof-light is placed in-between the living room and the dining room. 
The design was focused on a strict separation of the individual space, but also on connecting naturally the family members in a common area. The artist’s bedroom is placed on the northern part of the rectangular mass and has a short route through the outdoor passage towards her atelier. Another door from the atelier leads to the dining room. The tea-room for the mother is in the attic on top of the kitchen, while the secret reading room for the father is on the opposite side of the attic accessible through the closet door of the bedroom. The study room for everyone is placed in the middle of the house, opening to the hallway, the living room and looks over to the small courtyard.

독특한 수직 동선 계획을 통해 흥미로운 장면과 형태를 구현하고자 했다. 북쪽을 향해 난 주 계단은 마당에서 바로 연결되며, 올라가면 바로 이층의 작은 거실에 도달한다.&#38;nbsp;작은 거실 앞 베란다,&#38;nbsp;동쪽을 향해 난 야외 계단을 통하여 옥상에 다다르면,&#38;nbsp;집 주변의 전경을 감상할 수 있다.&#38;nbsp;이 뒤틀린 동선 덕분에 옥상 계단 하부,&#38;nbsp;작업실 천장면을 아치로 형태를 만들 수 있었다.
높은 층고의 작업실을 구축하기 위해 철근 콘크리트로 구조를 선택했고,&#38;nbsp;박공지붕만 경량목구조로 만들어 시공비를 절감할 수 있었다.&#38;nbsp;외부 마감으로는 백색의 고벽돌을 세로 줄눈은 생략한 체,&#38;nbsp;가로 줄눈으로만 시공하여 두 개의 매스가 중첩된 형상이 더욱 간결해 보일 수 있게 했다.
A unique vertical circulation has created the design’s interesting scenes and forms. The main staircase leading north can be reached directly from the courtyard, allowing easy access to the second living room upstairs. Through the small balcony in front of this living room, an outdoor staircase goes east, leading to the roof terrace that provides a complete view of the surroundings. This twisted circulation has made it possible to create an arch on the corner of the atelier ceiling, right underneath the roof staircase.
It was necessary to construct with reinforced concrete to realize the high-ceilinged atelier. Only the gable roof was constructed with lightweight timber construction, which helped to reduce the budget. The light-colored used brick was chosen for the cladding of the façade, and the bricks are layered only with the horizontal joint highlighting the concise look of the two connected volumes.

	산호수집

산호수집은 완주군에 있는 한적한 택지 개발 지구 주택단지 끝자락에 위치한다. 대지에서 서쪽으로 모악산을 동쪽으로 경각산과 모악 호수를 볼 수 있다. 심리분석가인 클라이언트는 도심 속 아파트보다는 조용한 마을에서 자신에게 알맞게 설계된 단독 주택에서 살고자 했다. 그 대지를 선택한 가장 큰 이유 또한 집에서 주변의 산세와 호수를 항상 바라볼 수 있었기 때문이다. 그리고 은퇴 후에도 집에서 계속해서 일을 병행하는 것이 가능한 공간을 꿈꿨다.

어떤 형태의 공간을 편안하다고 생각하는지는 사람마다 다르다. 설계는 클라이언트가 한때 살았던 단독 주택에 대한 추억을 기반으로 삼았다. 높은 층고와 일정한 폭의 거실, 풍경을 바라보며 계단을 올라가고, 침실에서 일어나 바로 주변 풍경을 바라볼 수 있는 등의 기억을 설계에 담고자 했다. 클라이언트와의 충분한 대화를 통해 각 실의 크기와 전체 동선을 결정했다.

The house is situated in a remote area of the town Wanju, where a developed residential district has been allocated. The plot is overlooking a lake with Geyong-gag mountain to the east and Mo-ak mountain to the west. The client, a psychologist, understood how a well-designed house in the countryside could benefit her life more than an apartment in the city. The view of a natural landscape of water and mountains that can be seen from her house was the essential reason for choosing the site. Also, the house should be able to change functions and respond to the client’s life cycle. &#38;nbsp;The subjective idea of what comfortableness was for the client who would reminisce of the rural house she once lived in became the backbone of the design’s layout. A high-ceilinged living room with a certain width, going up the stairs with the light and scenery, to have the view of the lake when she wakes up, and so on. Through profound conversations with the client, very specific sizes of each room and the circulation were decided.

	가로 15m, 세로 15m 정방형의 모듈 중심에 중정을 배치하여 집 안 곳곳에서 동쪽의 호수를 바라볼 수 있도록 했다. 중정 옆 계단실 창을 통해 중정과 호수를 동시에 볼 수 있다. 일층 마당을 중심으로 남쪽에는 부엌과 식사공간, 거실이 합쳐진 큰 공간을, 마당 반대편 북쪽에는 서재를 배치했다. 침실을 전부 이층에 둠으로써 일층에 있는 서재를 후에 상담실로 사용할 수 있도록 공간을 계획했다.


이층의 각 실들은 분절된 매스와 개별의 박공지붕을 통해 독립성을 강화했다. 두 개의 침실, 다락이 있는 작은 거실, 중앙의 복도와 계단실에 각기 다른 크기의 박공지붕이 얹힌 네 개의 매스를 중첩시켰다. 지붕의 기울기는 30% 이상 70% 이하로, 경사 지붕이 전체 지붕 면적의 70% 이상을 차지해야 하는 지구 단위계획을 따른다. 각 방의 창에서는 각기 다른 주변 풍경을 바라볼 수 있다. 안방과 작은 거실에서는 호수를 내려다볼 수 있으며 작은 침실과 안방 욕실 창에는 모악산의 전경을 담았다. 모악산의 경치를 바라보며 작은 거실 위 다락으로 올라가면 반대쪽을 향한 작은 창으로 모악 호수와 경각산을 바라볼 수 있다.
	

On a limited footprint of 15mx15m a courtyard was created to maximize the view of the lake so that it can reach inside the house. The main staircase is placed in the center with a window that overlooks the courtyard and the lake. The living room combined with the dining room is placed to the south and the study room to the north with the courtyard in the middle. The clear division of the first level and the second level was planned, and allows the study room on the first level to eventually function as a counseling space after her retirement. This made it necessary for all the bedrooms to be located on the second level.Meanwhile, the privacy of each room on the second level was highlighted by creating the four volumes with gable roofs - two bedroom volumes, a small living room with attic volume, and the hallway with the staircase volume. The form was also following local planning regulations which stated that the angle of the roof should be exceeding 30% but less than 70%, and also that the inclined roof must occupy more than 70% of the total roof area. The distinctive scenery is captured inside each volume. In the master bedroom and the small living room, the scenery of the lake can be seen, while in the master bathroom and the small bedroom, the panorama of the Mo-ak Mountain stands out.

그리고 성격이 다른 두 개의 층을 드러낼 수 있도록 마감재를 각기 다르게 정했다. 일층은 백색의 스타코로,&#38;nbsp;이층은 벽과 지붕 모두 갈바륨 골강판으로 마감하여 네 개의 박공의 매스가 부각되어 보일 수 있게끔 했다.&#38;nbsp;무채색의 마감재를 택함으로써 집의 추상적인 형태와 비례감을 더욱 강조할 수 있었다. 
어떤 장소에 누구를 위한 디자인을 하고 있는지, 또 앞으로 삶이 어떻게 변화할지에 대한 충분한 이해를 통해서 공간의 형태와 배치를 결정했다.&#38;nbsp;경사진 지붕을 요구하는 지구단위 계획을 재미있게 해석하여 이 집만의 특징을 찾고자 했다.&#38;nbsp;클라이언트의 구체적인 요구 사항과 엄격한 규제를 지키면서 간결한 형태감을 완성하여,&#38;nbsp;주변 자연환경과 마을에 어울릴 수 있게끔 했다. 


	The materiality of the facade followed naturally from the arrangement of the different functions. By cladding the houses on the second level entirely with galvanized corrugated steel, we were able to give them the appearance of abstract volumes and to help them stand out on top of the more modest white stucco cladding on the lower level, while at the same time retaining a light monotone aesthetic.
The creativity of design can be simply driven from a deep understanding of where the site is located and whom you are designing for. The unusual shape for the house was also a result of a playful re-interpretation of the local building regulation that required all houses in the area to have inclined roofs. By combining this apparent limitation with the client's specific needs for privacy and vertical separation of functions, allowed the final design to at once be both modern and respectful of its context.

이 프로젝트는 상업용 건물의 공간 일부분을 정신건강의학과 의원으로 계획한 인테리어 작업이다. 빛을 필요로 하는 공간인 대기실, 진료실, 연구실을 창가에 배치하고 환자, 의사와 간호사의 효율적인 동선을 중심으로 평면을 구성했다.&#38;nbsp;의원 입구에서 바로 대기실이 보이지 않도록 출입공간을 독립적으로 분리한 뒤,&#38;nbsp;유리문 뒤로는 그래픽월만 보이게끔 했다.&#38;nbsp;소아청소년 환자들을 고려하여,&#38;nbsp;벽면 모서리 부분을 곡선으로 마감했다.
 
Clinic Iksan

This is an interior project to design a clinic in a commercial building. The spaces that required natural light – the exam room, the study room and the waiting room - are placed near the window, and an efficient movement for the doctor and the nurse is considered in organizing the floorplan. To make the waiting room not to be seen directly from the entrance, a small passage is made only making the graphic wall being exposed from the transparent door. A curved line is adopted on the corner of the wall taking into account the young patients.

	대기 공간의 천장의 정사각형 그리드 모듈을 구획하고, 필요한 조명, 에어컨과 스프링 쿨러를 모듈에 맞게 계획했다.&#38;nbsp;그리드 모듈을 이용한 디자인을 대기 의자에도 응용했다.&#38;nbsp;자유로운 배치가 손쉽게 가능하도록 의자 하부에 바퀴를 숨겨 부착했다.&#38;nbsp;입구 벽 하부와 출입 공간 바닥,&#38;nbsp;접수실 상판에 인근 채석장에서 구한 익산석을 사용하여 장소성을 부여하고자 했다.
	A rectangular module is set on the ceiling of the waiting room, which allows the discrete installation of the necessary lightning, air-conditioning and the sprinkler system according to a grid. The grid module continued in the design of the chairs of the waiting room. Hidden wheels attached on the bottom of each chair allow the convenient rearrangement of the chairs and helps the waiting room to have a diverse usage. The use of glass blocks in certain walls allows the connection of separated areas. Iksan granite is used on the entrance flooring, the bottom of the entrance wall and the top of the reception desk, giving a local identity to the space.

﻿그늘 쌓기는 그래픽 디자이너 오혜진과 함께 작업한 설치물이다. &#38;lt;2018 서울 포커스: 행동을 위한 디자인&#38;gt; 전시 일부로서, 서울시립 북서울미술관 야외공간에 설치되었다. 더운 여름, 아이들이 좋아하는 분수대 공간 주변에 작업을 계획하여, 더욱더 활기찬 공간을 조성하고자 하였다. 각기 다른 패턴과 색상의 아크릴 패널을 단순하고 얇은 철봉이 지지하는 형태이다. 이렇게 겹쳐진 아크릴 패널은 색색의 그늘을 만들어낸다. 해가 내리쬐는 여름날 아이들은 다양한 패턴과 색상의 그림자 아래를 지나다니며 공간을 경험하게 된다.

IW-MW have collaborated with the graphic designer Hezin O. The installation was set up in the outdoor public space of the Buk Seoul Museum of Art as part of the exhibition 2018 Seoul Focus: Design for Action. One of the children’s beloved areas during the summer time is the fountain. The installation aims to provide extra playfulness with or without the operation of water sprinkling. Simple thin steel columns are holding the overlapping acrylic panels which have different colors and patterns.&#38;nbsp;The acrylic panels create colorful shadows which overlap with each other. On a sunny day, children can experience the space together with the playful shadows exposed to them.

	서울시립 십대여성건강센터 원예교실

상수역과 합정역 사이, 카페, 레스토랑 등 각종 상업시설이 즐비한 지역 한가운데에 서울시립 십대여성건강센터 ‘나는봄’이 있다. 막달레나 공동체가 서울시에서 위탁받아 운영하는 곳으로서 위험 환경에 노출된 여자 청소년을 위해 무료진료, 심리치료,&#38;nbsp;교육 등 다양한 서비스를 지원한다.&#38;nbsp;센터는 넓은 정원이 있었던 단독주택을 개조하여 사용 중이었다.&#38;nbsp;옛 지하 차고지는 한때 음식점으로도 사용한 적이 있었으나,&#38;nbsp;안전진단D&#38;nbsp;등급을 받은 이후에는 아예 쓰일 수 없게 됐다.&#38;nbsp;이 프로젝트는 그 차고지를 철거한 뒤,&#38;nbsp;원예교실을 만드는 작업이다.

차고지 위에는 큰 나무들이 무성하게 자라고 있었다. 동네 모든 새들의 휴식처이자 고양이들의 놀이터인 차고지 위 작은 공원은 이곳이 서울 도심이 아닌 듯한 인상을 줬다.&#38;nbsp;센터 건물 안에서도 넓고 푸른 정원 덕분에 햇살이 충분히 들어왔다.&#38;nbsp;새로 지을 공간에는 원예 교실,&#38;nbsp;창고,&#38;nbsp;조용한 상담실과 화장실이 필요했다.


	Learning Centre for Teenage Girls

Seoul City Health Centre for Teenage Girls ‘I’m Bom’ is located in a commercial district where cafés, restaurants and various shops are lined up along the street. It is run by Magdalena Community, consigned by the city of Seoul, and provides free medical care, psychotherapy, education and various services to support teenage girls who are undergoing a critical situation. The center has been using a renovated private house with an outdoor garden as its office. Also on the site was a former garage, which had been changed to a restaurant, but was no longer in use and was deteriorating. This project was assigned to build the planting classroom after demolishing the garage.
The top of the garage was densely covered with grass and trees. This tiny park, provided a resting place for birds and a playground for the cats, creating a contrasting atmosphere compared to where it is located in the city center. Due to the spacious green space outside, an abundance of sunlight is provided to the interior spaces of the center. The new extension was to include a planting classroom, storage, a quiet counseling space and a toilet.

	적은 예산과 짧은 공사 기간이라는 제약 조건으로 인해 건물을 어떻게 지을 것인가에 대한 고민을 초반부터 하지 않을 수 없었다. 구조는 가장 빠른 속도로 구축이 가능한 경량 목구조로,&#38;nbsp;마감재 또한 비싸지 않고 시공이 용이한 시멘트 사이딩과 아스팔트 슁글로 정했다.&#38;nbsp;기존 사무실 건물에도 햇볕이 내리쬐는 것이 가능할 수 있도록 모임지붕으로 형태가 잡혔다.&#38;nbsp;그 모임지붕 아래 상담실에서 하늘을 바라볼 수 있는 천창을 만들었다. 
어린 나이에 경험하는 불운의 대부분은 자신의 의지로 어찌할 수 없는 경우가 많다. 여성으로서 온전히 혼자서 그 무게를 감당하는 것은 더욱 더 쉽지 않을 것이다.&#38;nbsp;공공건물이 위화감 없이 편한 모습으로 다가갈 수 있도록 이 프로젝트에 참여한 모든 사람들이 마음을 썼던 것 같다.&#38;nbsp;도움이 필요한 누구나 마음 편히 찾아올 수 있는 장소가 되길 바란다.
	Due to the tight budget and the limited time for construction, the method of building the project had to be considered in the early stages. The lightweight wooden structure was chosen, as it is the fastest to construct. Cement siding for the exterior façade and asphalt shingle for the roofing was decided due to easy execution and a low cost. To have the natural light on the existing building, a hip roof was chosen. The roof-light was created, allowing one to look up at the sky from the counseling space under the vertex.For many unfortunate experiences in a person’s young age, it is difficult to fix the situation by oneself. Especially for a young woman overcoming various obstacles alone may not be easy. The entire team, who has participated in this project, has been conscious of creating a public building that would be perceived comfortably without authority. The hope was that the center would be visited more casually by anyone who needs help.
